Booking, payments, cancellations, and staying at Jho’La.

Terms & Conditions

Plain English summary (quick read)

  • Deposit: 20% to confirm your booking.

  • Balance: due on arrival. Paying by card at the surf camp may include a 3% surcharge.

  • Cancellations: 30+ days = full refund; 14–29 days = 50% refund; 0–13 days/no-show = no refund.

  • Changes: we’ll do our best to adjust dates or details if availability allows.

  • Check-in/out: after 15:00 / before 11:00 (luggage storage available).

  • Respect the house: we’re a small camp. If someone’s behavior affects safety or other guests, we may ask them to leave.

1) About these Terms

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) apply to bookings made with Jho’La Surf Camp (“we”, “us”) through our website or directly with us. By booking, you confirm you have read and accepted these Terms.

If anything in your booking confirmation email differs from these Terms, the booking confirmation email will take priority

2) Booking process

  • Bookings are made online via our website checkout (or confirmed directly with us in writing).

  • A booking is only confirmed once the deposit is paid and you receive a confirmation.

  • Please ensure your personal details (name, email, phone) are correct so we can contact you about arrival and scheduling.

3) What’s included (standard week packages)

Unless clearly stated otherwise on the specific package page or in your confirmation email, our standard week packages include:

  • 7 nights accommodation

  • Daily breakfast

  • 5 lunch snack-packs (typically on activity days)

  • 2 dinners per week

  • Transport to and from the scheduled activity

  • 5 days of activity (as per the package: surf, yoga, diving, SUP, guiding, etc.)

Tailor-made stays

We can tailor the duration and activities to what you want, subject to availability. Custom stays may have different inclusions and pricing than the standard week packages.

4) Prices, deposit, and payments

Deposit

  • A 20% deposit is required to secure your booking.

Balance

  • The remaining balance is due upon arrival at the surf camp, unless agreed otherwise in writing.

Payment methods

We may accept payment by card, PayPal, bank transfer, or cash (availability may vary).

Card surcharge (on-site)

  • Payments made by card at the surf camp may include a 3% surcharge.

5) Cancellations and refunds

Cancellation timing is calculated based on the local date in Portugal and the scheduled check-in date.

  • 30+ days before arrival: full refund of amounts paid

  • 14–29 days before arrival: 50% refund of amounts paid

  • 0–13 days before arrival / no-show: no refund

6) Changes to bookings

If you want to change dates, guest names, package details, or activities after booking, we’ll do our best to accommodate the request if availability allows. We cannot guarantee changes, especially in peak season.

7) Check-in, check-out, and luggage

  • Check-in: after 15:00

  • Check-out: before 11:00

  • Luggage storage: available for early arrivals or late departures (subject to space).

8) Guest responsibilities, conduct, and right to refuse service

Jho’La is a small, community-style surf camp. We expect guests to behave respectfully toward other guests, neighbors, and property.

We reserve the right to refuse service or ask a guest to leave the premises (without refund) if, in our reasonable judgment, their behavior:

  • Puts the safety of themselves or others at risk

  • Involves aggression, harassment, discrimination, or intimidation

  • Involves excessive intoxication or drug-related behavior

  • Causes serious disturbance to other guests or the local community

  • Causes damage to property

If we ask a guest to leave, the guest is responsible for arranging their own alternative accommodation and transport.

9) Damage, loss, and extra charges

Guests are responsible for:

  • Any damage they cause to the property, furniture, equipment, or facilities

  • Any excessive cleaning required due to misuse

If something is broken or damaged, we may charge the guest the reasonable cost of repair or replacement.

10) Activities, safety, and ocean conditions

General safety

Outdoor and ocean-based activities involve inherent risks (including slips, falls, collisions, changing weather, currents, and waves). By participating, you confirm that:

  • You are in suitable health to take part

  • You will follow safety instructions and use equipment properly

  • You will inform us of relevant medical conditions, injuries, allergies, or medications

Weather and conditions

Activities depend on ocean and weather conditions. For safety and quality, we may:

  • Change the schedule

  • Change location (e.g., different coast)

  • Substitute an activity

  • Cancel an activity session

We will always aim to provide the best possible alternative, but specific conditions and outcomes (e.g., wave size, visibility for diving) cannot be guaranteed.

11) Third-party providers

Some experiences may be delivered by trusted third-party partners (for example diving, coasteering, or other activities). Where a third-party provider is involved:

  • Their own safety rules, insurance, and terms may apply

  • We may act as the organizer, but the provider is responsible for delivering the activity

Unless clearly stated otherwise, payments are made to Jho’La Surf Camp.

12) Photos and media

We may take photos or short videos during the week for our website and social media. If you prefer not to appear in media, tell us at check-in and we will respect your request.

13) Privacy

We handle personal data according to our Privacy Policy on our website.

14) Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal. Any disputes will be handled by the competent courts in Portugal, unless mandatory consumer law states otherwise.
