Sustainability built into the stay

Jho’La is designed for travelers who care about how and where they stay. Our surf house uses solar photovoltaic panels for electricity, solar-heated water, double-glazed windows for thermal efficiency, a saltwater pool to reduce chemical use, and low-flow taps and showers to lower water consumption.
We also encourage recycling, provide reusable water bottles for guests, and work with eco-conscious partners where possible. This creates a surf holiday that feels more aligned with the environment guests come here to enjoy.

Better surf days through daily spot selection

Being eco-conscious does not mean compromising on the surf experience. We are based in Praia da Luz, Algarve, with access to both south coast and west coast surf spots. Depending on the swell and wind, we choose locations such as Praia da Luz, Praia da Rocha, Meia Praia, Zavial, Cordoama, Castelejo, or Bordeira.
This flexibility helps us find better conditions for different levels while avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach.

A surf camp shaped by real ocean knowledge

Jho’La was created by Francisco, a marine biologist, certified surf instructor, dive master, and custom surfboard shaper. His background brings a deeper connection to the ocean, local ecosystems, and surf culture.
That perspective shapes the guest experience in practical ways — from surf safety and spot choice to storytelling, local knowledge, and a stronger awareness of the environment around you.

Comfortable accommodation with a slower, more personal rhythm

Our surf house hosts up to 10 guests across shared and double rooms, all with air conditioning, shared bathrooms, and a calm, welcoming atmosphere. Three rooms face the saltwater pool, while one double room overlooks the garden.
Guests enjoy breakfast every day, lunch snack-packs on surf days, and two homemade Portuguese dinners each week. It is a stay designed around comfort, community, and authentic hospitality rather than high-volume tourism.
